This pair of graphite drawings by Málaga-based artist Rodrigo Gross, created around 2008, belongs to an early period in his practice where drawing functioned as both a structural study and a visceral language. Gross, best known for his emotionally charged paintings that oscillate between figuration and expressionist distortion, has long used drawing as an autonomous field of research. These works are not sketches but intense microcosms: layered, slow-moving explosions of form rendered with obsessive repetition.

Executed in dense, pointillist graphite, the drawings evoke anatomical systems, protozoan bodies, or imagined tissue—something between an X-ray and a hallucination. While Gross’s paintings tend toward saturated color and psychic figuration, these works withdraw into the haptic and internal. They make visible the silent labour of form, and how structure can emerge from thousands of tiny gestures. Best displayed as a diptych with a pause between them, the two drawings create a field of tension that pulses in the space between.
