For the fiftieth issue of Record, Moriyama temporarily abandons the series’ usual flow of street photography for a single subject. After meeting Yaco in Ginza in December 2021, he photographed her over one evening: first moving through the illuminated streets of Ginza and Yurakucho, then posing nude around the publisher’s gallery. The entire issue follows this spontaneous encounter, shifting between city, portrait and body. An exception within Moriyama’s long-running photographic journal, No.50 turns a chance meeting into a compact study of photographer and subject.
