Simmon: A Private Landscape — Eikoh Hosoe — Akio Nagasawa Publishing — 2012
Hosoe turns Tokyo into a stage for Yotsuya Simon, photographing the actor and doll-maker in 1971 across places connected to his own youth: Asakusa, Sensō-ji, Hanayashiki and the Sumida River. Simon’s theatrical presence transforms these familiar streets into a psychological landscape where performance, gender and memory intersect. Hosoe described the series as a record of his youthful memories. This first edition includes poems by Kazuko Shiraishi and a text by Ikuya Kato, and was issued in 900 signed and numbered copies.
