Another Black Darkness — Sakiko Nomura — Akio Nagasawa Publishing — 2016

Nomura pushes her characteristic darkness almost to the point where the photograph disappears. Her first experiments with solarization reduce nude bodies and cityscapes to faint contours emerging from dense black fields, shifting the work toward the boundary between photography and graphic image. The series was shown in Another Language: 8 Japanese Photographers at Rencontres d’Arles in 2015. Designed by Satoshi Machiguchi, the book intensifies the effect through black ink on black paper. Each of the 600 copies is signed and numbered.
